Satsumas are the small, easy-to-peel ruit that children and adults love to snack on. The peel comes away rom the sweet ruit easily, making this a healthy, no-mess treat. Satsuma trees are dwar in size and compact enough or a container. I you live in a rost-ree part o the country, they can be planted in the ground. Usually only reaching a ma height o just 10 eet, they are easy to move into a cool, sunny room or the winter. They can also be pruned to orm small bushes or made into topiary orms such as a ball on an upright stem. The trees will maintain that resh green oliage throughout the winter, making this a delightul tree all year round. Like all citrus trees, the Satsuma thrives in ull sun. They do require a regular watering schedule in the summer to help the ruit ripen. Lightly-scented lowers appear in late winter, giving way to small green ruit that slowly ripens over the summer. I your tree is indoors when it lowers, you will want to hand-pollinate to get the maimum harvest rom the tree. This is easy to do with a cotton wool ball - just dab the lowers and the pollen will be deposited on the cotton wool. Dabbing several lowers, one ater the other, will transer the pollen rom one lower to the net and pollination will occur. The resulting ruit will slowly ripen over the summer and be ready to harvest rom late summer all the way through early winter, i it does not get too cold. You no longer need a large, heated greenhouse to accommodate bulky citrus trees; a sunny window is ine.
